Tawny Owl Boxes

The Tawny Owl is a woodland bird, usually nesting in tree cavities, and hunts its prey in these areas too. It is Britain’s most common owl, though more people know its "twowhit, twowoo" call than have ever seen one, since it hunts at night and roosts in the tree canopy during daylight.

We have found that it's not easy to get them to adopt a box for nesting but if you hear their calls nearby and have woodland, or a suitable tree near woodland, it's definitely worth a try. Our Tawny nest boxes are secured to the tree by means of a separate batten fixed with coach screws. This enables safe lifting of the box into place and it is then secured with wire ties. They are fitted with access doors for monitoring. Approximate dimensions are 50 cm x 30 cm x 45 cm high.

The owl and raptor boxes and the swift boxes need to be correctly sited and are best installed by us. Please contact us for advice on suitability of local habitat and location of the box. We are happy to visit to advise and also to install these if you are within 10 miles of Bisham. There is a modest extra charge for this (see price list).

Our boxes are available to collect on Wednesday mornings from our base in Winter Hill Road, Cookham Dean SL6 6PJ, or at other times/locations by prior arrangement. Contact us for further information.
